Sisterhood

Steadfast in Sisterhood

For sisters, Phi Mu can mean many different things. To a new member, joining Phi Mu is having sisters to call day or night and friends you can turn to for anything. It’s having a home away from home. It’s becoming the best version of yourself with sisters cheering you on through some of the most formative years of your life. It’s about traditions and values – but more than that, it’s about sharing a bond with women who want the best for you and see the best in you.

Our Phi Mu Creed calls our members to uphold our values of love, honor and truth by:

  • Loving our sisters for who they are and help them grow into the best versions of themselves. Love means that we support each other, care for one another, and are guided by actions that encourage, inspire, and build each other up.
  • Honoring our commitments to our sisterhood and to each other. We honor the hearts of our members, and celebrate their different backgrounds, pasts and futures. Honor means that we strive to achieve our best and fight for what we believe in to make the world a better place.
  • Striving to create a sisterhood where each sister can live as the truest version of herself. To be truthful is to be honest and authentic; it is doing the right thing, even when it isn’t the easy or popular choice.

If this sounds like something you want to experience, we hope you will seek out additional opportunities to meet Phi Mu at University of Kentucky!

Rho Iota's Sisterhood

Hi!! My name is Heidi Haumesser and I am currently serving as the 2026 Sisterhood Chairwoman! When I decided to join a sorority my freshman year, I knew that I really valued finding a chapter that felt like a home away from home. Phi Mu had that special bond I was looking for in a sorority, and has continued to show me that our chapter is full of the most intentional, kind, and dedicated members. My job as the Sisterhood Chairwoman is to help cultivate this sense of community within our chapter, and ensure each girl has the opportunity to find the home I found in Phi Mu. One of the ways I do this is through planning sisterhood events that occur about twice a month. Usually, one of the events is hosted at the Phi Mu house, and one is somewhere off campus. This makes things super convenient for our on-campus girlies, but also gives our members the opportunity to experience cool things throughout Lexington! Some of my favorite events we had last semester were renting out SkyZone or Cinemark to watch Pitch Perfect, or our galentines event at the house where we painted glass coffee cups, had James C Boutique do a pop-up shop, and of course ate lots of treats! Another super fun thing I get to plan is our Sisterhood Retreat! This happens once a year in the fall semester and is a chapter wide event. Last year, we rented out Kroger Field and had a huge field day competition between all of the pledge classes. Its always such a great way to bond with other chapter members, and of course take lots of cute pictures. There are so many other fun parts of my job like getting to coordinate fun pop-ups at our chapter meetings, like LexiSips last semester, and working with our sister sorority assigned by Panhellenic to plan a sisterhood event with them! The bond between the girls here at Phi Mu is truly like no other, and I am so lucky I get to give back to the chapter that has given me so much through this position!
